Fumiko Kawa is an indie fashion designer currently living in Singapore/Malaysia. Her fashion blog is located at www.blog.fumikokawa.com. I first contacted her for her approval on a previous post I made about galaxy prints. To my surprise, she answered back immediately and was very excited and positive about the post. Even though she is busy with her fashion design and social networking, Ms. Fumiko took the time to do a short interview:

When did you decide you wanted to become a fashion designer?
At the first moment I fall in love with fashion.
What/who inspires you?
I don’t tend to any fashion style or icon, I don’t want to limit myself for any inspiration. I could get inspired by a song, a movie, a fabric, a design or even a smile. Fashion is everywhere, and I like the spirits I do in fashion.
What are you currently working on?
I am an Independent Fashion Designer, Stylist and Blogger. I work as a Style Scout@ CScout New York/Japan (Singapore/Malaysia based), freelance, projects, and I also work as a part-time Singer in Cafe.
What do you cherish the most?
To have a chance to live and experience in this wonderful world.
You said that your dream is to contribute to the fashion world and have your design pieces used in runway shows. Since your blog has gained so much popularity, how much closer are you to your goal?
Actually, I am self-taught in fashion design, still in learning and keep improving on my work. I participated kinds of competition, to gain more experiences and self-exposure. I collaborate with different brands, photographers, models and designers too in different projects. Glad that some of my creation already produced and selling in the market^^
The more I get into the fashion world, the more stronger in belief that I have to pursue my dream. I planning to further my studies on fashion design in the coming year, working on the school fees and my fashion design portfolio… Hopefully it won’t be my dream only.
